DAY 1 - Travel to Cusco

Today we depart from Iquitos Airport and board our flights to Cusco in Peru, via Lima

You'lll be met on arrival at the airport in Cusco and transferred to the hotel where the evening is at leisure.

Included meals: Breakfast
Accommodation: Palacio Del Inka, A Luxury Collection Hotel (or similar)

DAY 2 - Cusco Sightseeing & Dinner Show

We start the day with a half day city tour, taking in the best view of the city from atop Cerro Pukamoqo (Red Peak).

We will visit the nearby Fortress of Sacsayhuamán, a colossal structure of enormous stones carved and fitted together in antiquity with incredible precision.

There will also be a stop off at the Mercado de San Pedro, the city’s main street market which will give you an opportunity to get to know the products of Cusco. The sights, aromas, tastes, and colours of this region can be overwhelming - you may just want to sit and watch the world go by, enjoying a hot drink and soaking up the atmosphere.

Our tour will also take in one of the most impressive buildings of Incan Cusco: the Korikancha (the Golden Temple) - a temple dedicated to the worship of the Sun God, whose interior walls were said to have been covered in gold. The tour ends with a stroll through the Cusco Plaza de Armas (Main Square), where you can visit the Cathedral and admire its exquisite vestibules and priceless paintings from the Cusco School of the 17th and 18th centuries.

Tonight we'll enjoy the best combination of Peruvian Novo-andenean dinner and folkloric show.

Included meals: Breakfast & Dinner
Accommodation: Palacio Del Inka, A Luxury Collection Hotel (or similar)

DAY 3 - Cusco to The Sacred Valley & Macchu Pichu

This morning, we continue towards the Sacred Valley.

Our first stop will be at Pisac, a beautiful place where Incan and Colonial influences have reached a perfect balance and created a unique way of life for the local inhabitants. Explore this quaint town, famous for its artisan markets where you can find extraordinarily fine jewellery and ceramic and textile craftwork.

Afterwards, we visit one of the last remaining Incan towns, Ollantaytambo, once fiercely guarded by a massive fortress. Discover the large archeological complex of what used to serve as a wayside inn for royal delegations on long journeys. Surviving structures here include multiple walls and towers that were used to protect the citadel from possible invasions.

This afternoon we we will walk a short distance to Ollantaytambo train station to take the vistadome train up high to the town of Aguas Calientes, the gateway to Macchu Pichu

Included meals: Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner
Accommodation: Machu Picchu Sumaq Luxury Edition

DAY 4 - Machu Picchu & Return to Cusco

Today is probably the highlight for most visitors to Peru as we visit the Historic Sanctuary of Machu Picchu

This morning, we board a bus to the entrance gate of the citadel of Machu Picchu, rediscovered by Hiram Bingham more than a century ago. Machu Picchu is considered one of the Seven Wonders of the World, with its architectural beauty, spectacular natural landscapes and the energy held in its enigmatic structures - it will take your breath away. Follow in the footsteps of the ancient Incans as you explore the magical citadel with a local guide.

After the tour, we'll stop at a local restaurant for lunch before we re-board the Vistadome train at Aguas Calientes Station for the journey back down through the stunning scenery of the Sacred Valley

We transfer back to our hotel from the station and enjoy a final dinner at the hotel together to round off our South American adventure.

WEATHER
Peru is a huge country and due to this, it has 28 different types of climate. In general, the weather is mild, without heavy winter rainfall in the nor excessive summer heat. However, the country can be split into three climatic areas. Peru’s subtropical coast has summertime temperatures exceeding 29°C, while winters there, from June-September, are humid and rainy with temperatures around 14°C. The climate is cold and dry in the Peruvian highlands, where temperature range between 9-18°C, according to the time of the day. The sun usually shines every morning of the year, but in the evening, temperatures drop to 5ºC. Inland, Cusco experiences a mild temperate climate. Winters are dry and summers warm, with temperatures averaging around 18°C in the daytime. In the capital city, Lima, average temperature is 25°C in the summertime, and 12-15°C in winter.

ELECTRICITY
In Peru, the standard voltage is 220V and the frequency is 60Hz. They use two types of plug – Type C (European plug adapter) as well as Type A (US/North American style). You may need to bring an adaptor, and/or converter depending on which electrical appliances you bring with you.

MOBILES & INTERNET COMMUNICATION
Moblie coverage is widely avaliable across Peru, be sure to check with your mobile provider for coverage and rates, as data roaming can be extremely expensive.

MONEY
Currency:

The currency of Peru is the Nuevo Sol (PEN). Though credit cards are often accepted at mid-high range establishments, but it is advisable to carry money in cash with you as well as not all shops and restaurants accept them.

ATMs are widely available in cities, but not so in smaller villages. Due to a high occurrence of card fraud and potential theft, is best to use an ATM during business hours and select one inside a bank, supermarket or large commercial building. Be particularly vigilant before and after using an ATM on the street, especially at night.
Visa and Mastercard are the most widely accepted credit cards, and some places, but not all, accept cards such as Diners Club or American Express. If you intend to use any of your debit or credit cards whilst away, please make sure that you contact your bank before you leave to inform them that you will be travelling in order not to cause any problems using your cards or whilst on the trip.

Gratuities:
After feedback from previous guests, we offer a group tipping package for this tour, more information on this will be shared in the 'Pre-Tour Emails'.

WATER
The tap water in Peru is not safe to drink, and you should stick to bottled water. Bottled water can be bought at supermarkets, kiosks and many shops.

SAFETY & SECURITY
As visitors, tourists may be more vulnerable to petty crimes like pickpocketing and scams, so we recommend staying aware and taking simple precautions.

RELIGION
Whilst Peru is mostly Catholic, Amerindian beliefs still largely held as well and traditions are incorporated into daily life as well as catholic feasts.

PHOTOGRAPHY
Peru offers photo opportunities one after another. You will return with many photos that can never be repeated. Remember to pack your camera, along with the charger, spare batteries and a spare memory card!
